STUDENT
SAFETY and SCHOOL SECURITY REMAIN TOP PRIORITIES
A message from Dr.
Richard Wiener, Superintendent
Dear Parents,
Staff and Residents:
In response to
yesterday’s tragedy at Virginia Tech, we are reviewing our district’s emergency
plans and remain committed to keeping students and staff safe in our school. Our emergency plans deal with natural
disasters, terroristic threats, bomb threats, intruders, gas leaks, and other
incidents. We are confident that we have
a viable comprehensive emergency plan for our school. As you know, we have continued to heighten
security measures at our school throughout this school year.
Along with fire
drills, students practice lockdown drills to prepare for a potential building
situation. Some of the practices we will
continue to enforce include:
In addition,
please review your emergency contact plan with your child. Please make certain that your child knows to whom
they are to report should a decision be made to release students early and you
are not at home. Remember to update your
emergency information and affirm a neighbor’s or friend’s interest in
supervising your child in your absence.
Be sure your child knows the name of the person(s) you have turned to
for assistance. Finally, be sure all
names and telephone numbers of parties appearing on your school emergency
records remain current.
To stay
informed, use the district’s web site and listen to the following stations: NJ101.5 FM and WPST 94.5 FM. Automated voice mail messages will be
recorded on the school’s main office telephone line and, if possible,
information will also be posted to the district web site: www.dtsk8.org.
Please be
assured that one of our primary concerns continues to be the safety and
well-being of our students and staff. It
is our goal to keep focused on educating our students in a safe and healthy
environment.
Sincerely,
Dr. R. Wiener
