Dear Parents and Guardians,

I wanted to give you a quick update on the status of our transportation system. Overall, everything has gone extremely well during the first week. All of our students have gotten to and from school safely. Our newly formed Transportation Committee met this morning to evaluate individual concerns from parents or drivers regarding unsafe stops, unsafe turns and unsafe road conditions. Changes are being implemented on some of the routes starting next Monday to address these concerns. If your child’s bus route or stop will be affected significantly by these changes, you will be contacted by our Transportation Coordinator, Mrs. Vivian Fleming.

We still have work to do on improving the timing of some of the routes. The drivers and students are getting used to the new bus routes and in some cases, new bus stops. The normal arrival time to school is 8:35AM and the departure time is 3:10PM. We are making progress towards meeting these times. Our drivers are taking daily attendance and recording student pick-up and drop-off times, and will continue this practice through next week. The Transportation Committee will analyze this data and make the necessary adjustments to the routes. We are experiencing a huge increase in the number of students taking the bus to and from school compared to last year. This was one of our objectives in redesigning the bus routes. It has been statistically proven that a child is much safer in a school bus than in a passenger vehicle. The challenge is to have our busses as full as possible while still meeting our goal of keeping students on the bus for the shortest amount of time.
