DELAWARE TOWNSHIP SCHOOL
EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSINGS
Emergency School Closing Process
- When weather conditions pose a
hazard to the safety of students and staff, the Superintendent can make a
decision to close school, delay opening, or dismiss early.
- To make this decision, the
Superintendent consults sending district superintendents, county road
officials, local police, the weather services, and representatives of the
District’s transportation department.
Current and predicted conditions, and actual driving conditions,
are all factors in the decision.
-
A decision to close school or
delay opening is usually made by 5:30 AM. The decision to delay opening will be
made when safe driving conditions are predicted for later in the
morning. In this case, the opening
of school will be delayed for 90 minutes, until 10:10
AM.
- Decisions regarding school
closings and delayed openings will be sent out via the PTA phone chain,
posted to the DTS website (www.dtsk8.org), as well as the media outlets
listed below. A message will also
be recorded on the school telephone (609) 397-3179.
-
A decision to dismiss early
will be made if weather suddenly worsens during the school day or if a
storm arrives sooner then predicted.
In this case, students will be dismissed from school at 1:30
PM. A phone call will be made to all
students in grades Pre School to 2. A phone message will be sent out via the
Xpedite automated phone system to all students in grades 3
to 8.
Decisions regarding early dismissal will be on the DTS website,
as well as the media outlets listed below.
- In case of inclement weather or
any other emergency, the following radio stations will broadcast school
closings, delayed openings, or early dismissal information:
JERSEY 101.5 FM
WOR 710
AM
WPST 94.5 FM
PLEASE NOTE
– In the event of an emergency closing, all school activities, including
