For the past six years, Doreen Roksvaag has been the computer teacher at Delaware Township School in Sergeantsville, New Jersey. As a technology fellow this year, her 'mission' is to help teachers use technology to enhance the learning experiences in their classrooms. Whether working one-on-one with a teacher, with a small group, or offering an after school workshop, she is very willing to help teachers, students, and administrators at their school. Mrs. Roksvaag will be home-based at the Hunterdon County ETTC
(www.hcrhs.k12.nj.us/ettc) at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, and she is offering workshops and personal school visitations. |

Kidspiration/
Inspiration Workshop at
Christopher Columbus
School, Trenton |
Because
of the grant's requirement to spend some of her year in NJ economically
disadvantaged/ Abbot school districts, Mrs. Roksvaag can also
be found working with Mercer
County's ETTC and several of the Trenton
Public Schools.
She enjoys mentoring teachers as they become comfortable with
the Internet and classroom software that enriches the curriculum
they teach. Mrs. Roksvaag says she "learns so much from
the teachers she mentors and hopes that her ideas are helpful
as well." |
|
| As
part of the application process for this fellowship, Mrs. Roksvaag
submitted a project entitled New Jersey: The "Crossroads
of the American Revolution." In this learning activity,
students in grades four- five will collect data from local and
county historical commissions, while also searching libraries
and Revolutionary
War Internet resources for relevant information to help gain
a better understanding of what it was like to live in New Jersey
during the Revolutionary War period. |
| Students
visited historic sites in New Jersey both via virtual field trips
and some actually travelled to nearby preserved sites. With this
information, students collaborated and used a variety of media
to present their findings effectively: PowerPoint, HyperStudio,
Digital Video, Oral Presentations, and more! |
